Key Contributions

Advocacy Against Witch Hunting

Over the past decade, a tragic reality has unfolded in our state, with 606 women murdered due to the deep-rooted superstition of witchcraft. In tribal and remote areas, many people believe that witches possess the power to kill through black magic. As a result, countless women branded as witches have suffered unimaginable atrocities—worse than death

Achievement in Promoting Posthumous Body and Organ Donation in Odisha

Over the past three decades, I have been dedicated to advancing the cause of posthumous body and organ donation in Odisha. This journey began with a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) I filed in the Odisha High Court, which led to a groundbreaking amendment to the Odisha Anatomy Act, 1975.

Challenge to Fraudulent Religious Figures

In 2019, I led a movement in the state against certain individuals posing as spiritual leaders (Babas), who were involved in notorious activities exploiting women and poor people and had illegally occupied huge government land. To strengthen our cause, I also filed a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) in the Orissa High Court. As part of the movement, we organized a one-day state-wide bandh, backed by immense pressure from the media and progressive individuals.

Quarterly Rationalist Magazine & Publications

For the past 25 years, a quarterly magazine focused on rationalism has been published, making significant contributions to fostering scientific temper and progressive thought within the state. This magazine holds the unique distinction of being the only one of its kind, consistently dedicated to promoting rational, evidence-based discussion and ideas. It has established itself as an important platform where critical thinking, reason, and skepticism are encouraged, especially in a landscape where such ideals may not always have widespread representation.

Charcha Publication

I run a nonprofit publishing house dedicated to promoting rational thinking and scientific temper through our books. We have already published around 100 titles, with several receiving prestigious awards such as the State Sahitya Academy. Our publications play a vital role in spreading awareness against superstition and blind beliefs.

Environmental Advocacy for Forest Conservation

In a democratic country like India, preserving natural resources and protecting the environment are collective responsibilities that cannot be overlooked, even in the face of long-standing religious traditions. The Ratha Jatra, a major festival associated with the Jagannath Temple, is celebrated in 3009 temples across Odisha. While this festival originated in Puri, its scale has grown immensely, leading to severe environmental consequences.

Social Boycott

I have taken a leading role in combating the growing incidence of social boycotts in Odisha, which target individuals and families for marrying outside their caste, disobeying village leaders, or refusing to follow kangaroo court orders. To tackle this injustice, I initiated awareness programs, provided legal assistance to victims, and advocated for a specific law by filing a PIL in the Odisha High Court.

Legacy

I have authored a collection of insightful books that promote rational thinking, scientific temper, and challenge superstitions. Among them are Bigyan O Kusanskar, Dahanira Kahani, Sarpa Samachar, Mrutyu Pare Sarira Dan, Odisare Dahani Pratha, and others. Additionally, I have written children’s books such as Sapara Kahani, Biswa Tapana Brudhi, Akasmika Abiskar, Abhula Atita, etc.
